2012-13In 2012 Marching Defenders performed their show titled "Through the Window." Music included selections from Bela Bartok's Dance Suite. The band made finals at the Boyle Co. and Morehead State University contests. They again qualified for State level competition and performed the finest show of the year at KMEA Quarterfinals at Montgomery Co. During the Fall, the band presented 2 concerts in the gym (Area Concert and Music Department Diamond Concert.) Grant Knox was selected Drum Major for the Bands of America Honor Marching Band. He led the group in the Tournament of Roses Parade New Year's Day in Pasadena, CA. Bryan Station again hosted the KMEA District 7 Honors Bands in January. Grant Knox (Euphonium), Michael Robinson (1st chair Clarinet), Zachary Robinson (Trumpet), were selected and represented us in those ensembles. For the third time in 5 years the performance was cancelled due to winter weather. Michael Robinson, Zachary Robinson, Emanuel Mora (Euphonium) and Grant Knox (Euphonium) advanced to the second round All-State Band Auditions. Michael Robinson was selected again on Baritone Saxophone in the All-State Jazz Band. Grant Knox was selected to the All-State Symphonic Band. Both performed at the KMEA In-Service Conference in February. Students selected to the All-District Jazz Band were Zachary Robinson (Trumpet), Jamie Monck (Guitar) and Michael Robinson (Lead Tenor Sax.) The Bryan Station HS Jazz Ensemble earned a Distinguished rating at KMEA Jazz Assessment. They performed Satin Doll by Duke Ellington, Li'l Darlin' by Neal Hefti and Perdido by Juan Tizol. The Symphonic Band performed at Norsworthy Auditorium along with Lafayette HS Wind Ensemble and the Morehead State University Wind Symphony. The Bands traveled to The Center for Rural Development in Somerset for KMEA Concert Band Assessment. The Symphonic Band performed Bravura by C.E. Duble, Sheltering Sky by John Mackey and Gathering of the Ranks at Hebron by David Holsinger. They earned straight Distinguished ratings. The Concert Band performed ...Not Afraid to Dream by Brian Balmages, Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofe and Caliber by Erik Morales. The received a Proficient rating. Distinguished Ensemble: Katherine Wright and Allie Monck. The Winter Guard did not compete, but Bryan Station Indoor Percussion had a very successful inaugural season. The placed 1st in class at every competition including the TriState Championships.
